DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the overall supervision of the Chief, Electronic Publishing Policy and Support Branch, the incumbent will contribute to the development, production and coordination of print and electronic information products and tools, in support of the Organization’s publishing policy and programme. In particular, the incumbent will:

provide support to technical units in conceptualizing publishing projects and programmes using the publishing planning procedures advise on publishing options and best practices; and provide training on publishing guidelines, standards and tools, when required;
determine, in collaboration with originators and the relevant publishing project team, the form that specialized information products will take in order to achieve their objectives within the budget and time available;
advise on effective ways of structuring and editing textual and graphic content as well as on suitable production options;
develop, edit and rewrite content and project manage the production of selected high-profile information products intended for publication in multiple languages and media;
prepare and ensure adherence to detailed project schedules, facilitating multiple language production;
coordinate the outsourcing of publishing projects or project components, including preparing assignment briefs and quality control;
identify external service providers for potential assignments and provide training as appropriate;
contribute to the development, dissemination and implementation of publishing standards and tools, including FAOSTYLE; ensure that correct publishing procedures are adhered to and that FAO policies and views are accurately reflected in FAO information products;
contribute to the ongoing development, testing and implementation of improved publishing technologies and workflow systems;
perform other duties as required.

 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Candidates should meet the following:
 
University Degree in Publishing, Communication, Languages or in a field related to the work of the Organization
Five years of relevant experience in editorial project management of technical or policy information products for an international organization or commercial publishing company
Excellent knowledge and command of English and limited knowledge of Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish
 
SELECTION CRITERIA

Candidates will be assessed against the following:
 
Extent and relevance of experience in editorial project management and production processes for print and electronic products in a multilingual publishing context which included briefing and training of external service providers
Extent of technical writing, editing and analytical skills in English, including complex graphical content, and proficiency in use of electronic coding and mark-up systems
Demonstrated ability to plan, establish priorities and organize work, including flexibility and ability to adapt to changing requirements
Demonstrated communication skills (written and oral) and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary, multilingual environment
Extent of experience in developing and implementing publishing guidelines, standards and tools and providing advisory support
Demonstrated initiative and willingness to keep abreast of and apply developments in publishing technologies and practices
 
Please note that all candidates should possess computer/word processing skills and should be capable of working with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
* The length of appointment for internal FAO candidates will be established in accordance with applicable policies pertaining to the extension of appointments.
 
REMUNERATION
 
Level P-3 carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US$ 94,072 US$ 121,060 (without dependants) and from US$ 100,780 to US$ 130,154 (with dependants)
