DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the overall supervision of the Director, Forest Economics and Policy Division and the direct supervision of the Chief, Forest Policy Service, the incumbent will:
Undertake regional and global sector outlook studies assessing future developments in the forest sector taking into account the impact of the various drivers of change;
Analyse long term trends in production, consumption and trade of wood and wood products and forecast future demand and supply including through development of appropriate models;
Undertake economic analysis relating to production of wood and non-wood forest products and environmental services;
Advise member countries on strategic planning for development of the forest sector within the overall framework of the national forest programmes;
Organize training workshops, meetings and seminars to develop national capacity in economic analysis and strategic planning;
Develop guidelines, manuals and training materials relating to the application of economic analysis to forestry;
Contribute to the development of strategies, programmes and projects in support of forestry development;
Perform other related duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:
Advanced University Degree in Forestry, including studies in economics; or advanced degree in economics, including studies in forestry economics
Seven years of relevant experience in forest sector studies including international experience in particular in developing countries
Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and a limited knowledge of one of the other two
SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:
Extent of knowledge of economic issues, in particular sector outlook studies
Extent of experience in the application of economic analysis to forestry
Experience in dealing with forestry issues in developing countries or countries in transition
Quality of both oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member
Extent of linguistic skills in the official languages of FAO: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish
Please note that all candidates should possess computer/word processing skills and should be capable of working with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
* The length of appointment for internal FAO candidates will be established in accordance with applicable policies pertaining to the extension of appointments.
REMUNERATION
Level P-4 carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US$ 96,846 US$ 118,663 (without dependants) and from US$ 104,000 to US$ 128,163 (with dependants)
