The main activities of the Hamburg Outstation include research in structural biology, the provision of experimental facilities to the external research community, and advanced training for scientists. The Software / Database Developer will join the Outstation’s computer group and will mainly be responsible for:
-Maintenance of an existing Oracle database and assorted tools
-Maintenance of web applications and local web services
-Improving documentation and test setup of the EMBL database systems
-Supporting the local administration team with data extraction for statistics & other purposes Assisting in the development of the upgrade system.
In addition to a qualification in computer sciences, a minimum of 2 years work experience focused on web application development technologies based on JAVA, JSP, Oracle and Oracle Application Server is required. Good working knowledge of Unix/Linux, Apache, SQL as well as JBOSS is essential. Experience in Microsoft Access and PHP would be an asset. Very good knowledge of English is required. In addition to excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a desire to work in an international research environment is expected.
An initial contract of 2 years will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of review.
