The ETH Zurich Bioprocess Laboratory is looking for a highly motivated, talented, and qualified PhD student with a background (MSc, diploma, or equivalent) in microbiology, molecular biology or biochemical engineering. The PhD student will be part of a EuroCORES project in Synthetic Biology (http://www.esf.org/activities/eurocores/running-programmes/eurosynbio.html) together with the Universities of Groningen, Regensburg and Tübingen, University College London, and the IDC Vienna in an effort to implement and exploit modular building blocks for the rational design and production of novel antibiotics.
The PhD student will be a member of our high-throughput screening group and adapt a recently developed novel ultrahigh-throughput platform to the challenging tasks of selecting functional modular peptide building blocks and producing carefully designed genetic parts for pathway design. The task will require creativity, teamwork, and persistence.
The Bioprocess Laboratory is part of the recently founded Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering (D-BSSE) of the ETH Zurich. The D-BSSE is the most recent ambitious endeavor of one of Europe’s premier research universities. It aims at exploring and exploiting novel interdisciplinary opportunities at the interface of molecular biosciences and engineering. The novel department is located on the Basel Campus of ETH Zurich (www.bsse.ethz.ch).
To apply, please submit your letter of application, CV, university transcripts, and the coordinates of at least two references via email to Prof. Sven Panke under sven.panke@bsse.ethz.ch
