The Non-Communicable Diseases and Environment Unit (NCE) addresses the major disease burden now and in the foreseeable future in Europe (cardio- and cerebro-vascular diseases, cancer, violence and injuries, mental health, etc.) and their contributing factors (alcohol, tobacco, substance abuse, etc.) as well as the associated conditions such as obesity, unhealthy lifestyles including diet and nutrition, lack of physical activity. The Unit deals with the risks and hazards associated to the environment, like water and sanitation, urban environmental quality, including air quality, chemical safety, occupational health, or more complex such as global climate change through strengthening health system capacity to detect and respond to health threats to national, regional and global health security. The Unit provides technical inputs into implementation of WHO's country programmes (Biennial Collaborative Agreements), which are led by the WHO Country Offices, aimed at supporting Member States in designing and implementing evidence based interventions, assessing the burden of disease and monitoring progress towards reducing death and disability, by integrating these activities with management and dissemination of technical knowledge through strengthening public health programmes and services. The Unit develops norms and standards, guidance and tools to assist countries to implement effective disease control programmes.

You must have, as a pre-requisite, a very high level of fluency in the target language, Greek, together with a degree in translation or languages. Any specialization in any field of technical translation or familiarity with translation tools would be an advantage. You will have an excellent command of the English language and be detail-orientated and quality-focused. The position requires you to understand the client's requirements and being able to communicate these to the team, therefore we require well-organised problem solvers with strong communication skills at all levels.
