Two Post-doc Positions - Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry - Leipzig - Germany
- By Germany DE Job Bank
- Published 01/28/2010
- Education And Teaching , Germany
The goal of the group is to develop and experimentally test theoretical models for brain mechanisms of human perception and action. Current projects focus on the question how one can explain the speed and robustness of human action perception, action and decision making using dynamic systems theory and Bayesian recognition. An emphasis will be placed on linking theoretical models to experimental findings using neuroimaging and behavioural data. The candidates will be encouraged to actively contribute with their own ideas and proposals.
PostDoc in benchmarking of global biosphere modele - Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry - Jena - Germany
- By Germany DE Job Bank
- Published 01/28/2010
- Helpdesk And Support , Management And Administration , Germany
Climate-biosphere interactions play an important role in shaping future pathways of the Earth System, yet there is substantial uncertainty in current modelling efforts. Reducing this uncertainty requires a systematic assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of current global biosphere models. We are seeking a highly-motivated scientist to build a comprehensive benchmarking system to critically evaluate global biosphere models used for Earth system modelling. Particular emphasis will be given to integrating new observations that constrain ecosystem responses to perturbations such as those arising from climatic changes. The successful candidate will actively participate in network-wide workshops and training events.
Microsystems - Microfluidics Engineer - EMBL - Heidelberg - GERMANY
- By Germany DE Job Bank
- Published 01/28/2010
- Clerical And Assistants , Education And Teaching , Medical And Pharmaceutical , Germany
EMBL is looking for a Microsystems/microfluidics engineer to join the newly established group of Dr. Christoph Merten in the Genome Biology Unit at the EMBL Heidelberg, Germany. The overall aim of the Merten lab is the development of enabling technologies for large scale screens in biology and chemistry. In particular, the group focuses on droplet-based microfluidic systems in which tiny water droplets (pico/nanoliter volumes) within an immiscible oil phase serve as independent reaction vessels. These microcompartments can be generated and manipulated (sorted, splitted, fused) at up to kilohertz frequencies. Due to the miniaturization the technology also allows the use of highly valuable samples that generally cannot be obtained on the scale for high throughput screening (e.g. primary human cells).
