    Within the Research Division, the Petroleum Studies Department is responsible for providing pertinent and reliable information and analyses in support of decision-making and policy-making in Member Countries. It carries out research programs and studies on short-term petroleum market developments with the aim of issuing reports on a regular, as well as ad-hoc basis, highlighting important issues for their use and consideration. It conducts regular forecasts, elaborates and analyzes oil market scenarios and prepares and publishes reports on these findings. It promotes OPEC’s views and technical analysis on short-term oil market developments to the industry at large and the general public via the OPEC Monthly Oil Market Report, as well as other reports, presentations and related podcasts. The Department also prepares and contributes to reports to be submitted to the Economic Commission Board, the Board of Governors, the Ministerial Monitoring Sub-Committee, as well as papers for various OPEC publications.

    An Academic Related Research Staff vacancy (full-time employed Assistant), salary range € 45,000 p.a. (according to experience and qualification), is available for 6 years at the Chair of casting research. The earliest starting date would be in October 2009.

    Suitable candidates should have a Ph.D. or an equivalent qualification, in a relevant subject area (Materials Science - Metallurgy, Physics, Engineering). The main research activity will be on microstructural investigations of as-cast microstructures by SEM and TEM. Additional knowledge of the simulation of heterogeneous nucleation kinetics would be advantageous.


    A PhD-Studentship in the Field of Medicinal Chemistry is currently available at the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Institute of Pharmacy, University of Innsbruck, Austria. Our research program is supported by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF).
    The main goal of the Opioid Research Group of the Department is devoted to the development of new potential drugs. The work of the PhD thesis will focus on the chemical synthesis and structure elucidation of novel morphinan derivatives. Applicants should have a master degree or equivalent in chemistry or pharmacy. Experience in synthetic organic chemistry and spectroscopic methods (e.g. IR, NMR) is required. Knowledge of the German language is a prerequisite.

    Under the supervision of the Head, Scientific Methods Unit, Software Application Section, International Data Centre Division, (IDC), to: Be responsible for the operation of the IDC Atmospheric Transport Modelling System, and provide scientific support for radionuclide monitoring operations. Perform in-depth atmospheric transport analyses and scientific investigations when triggered internally or by Member States. Keep abreast of meteorological methods and their potential for use in the IDC, and take part in projects to improve and evaluate meteorological software and algorithms. Determine and define requirements for IDC software development, improvement and operation in the fields of meteorological analysis and atmospheric transport modeling. Provide guidance and training to trainees assigned to the Unit. Perform other duties as assigned.

    The Department of Safeguards is the organizational hub for the implementation of IAEA safeguards. The IAEA implements nuclear verification activities for more than 140 States in accordance with their safeguards agreements. The safeguards activities are undertaken within a dynamic and technically challenging environment including advanced nuclear fuel cycle facilities and complemented by the political diversity of the countries.

    The Division of Information Management comprises four Sections and provides the Department of Safeguards with the services relating to data processing, secure information distribution, information analysis and knowledge generation which are needed to draw independent, impartial and credible safeguards conclusions.


    The Programme Development and Technical Cooperation Division comprises of the Office of Managing Director, seven Branches and one independent Unit reporting directly to the Managing Director: The Trade Capacity-Building Branch, the Investment and Technology Promotion Branch, the Agri-Business Development Branch, the Industrial Policy and Private Sector Development Branch, the Environmental Management Branch, the Montreal Protocol Branch, the Energy and Climate Change Branch and the International Financial Institutions (IFI) Partnership Unit. The Division is responsible for providing all technical cooperation services on technological, policy and economic issues in the industrial sectors concerned.

    University degree in computer science or a related field. At least five years relevant working experience in computer operations, including concepts, standards, technology tools, procedures, hardware and services in use for delivering IT services, negotiating skills and experience in dealing with users, staff and suppliers as well as ability to make technical decisions and initiate action to resolve problems and familiarity with concepts and practices required to implement effective IT solutions. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential. Working knowledge of one of the other official languages of the CTBTO Preparatory Commission is an asset.

    University degree in computer sciences or computer engineering or a related field. At least two years relevant working experience in UNIX and LINUX systems administration and computer technology including developing large centralized and globally distributed file systems with strong customer service skills;  demonstrated ability to install and configure Red Hat Enterprise LINUX, understand limitations of hardware, configure networking and file systems, configure security, set up common network (IP) services, carry out diagnostics and trouble shooting and system administration inclusion Disaster Recovery and backup;  scripting experience, TCP/IP networking experience.  Ability to work and multitask in a heterogeneous environment including LINUX, UNIX and Windows servers. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential. Working knowledge of one of the other official languages of the CTBTO Preparatory Commission is an asset.
