    The Department of Social Medicine is seeking to appoint an able and enthusiastic quantitative researcher with epidemiological and statistical skills to help develop a programme of applied public health research concerned with the health and well-being of children and young people.
    As a member of the core staff of the new Centre for the Development and Evaluation of Complex Interventions for Public Health Improvement (DECIPHer), you will work in collaboration with other centre staff and members of the Department providing support to existing projects and helping to develop, write and execute new research proposals.

    The main activities of the Hamburg Outstation include research in structural biology, the provision of experimental facilities to the external research community, and advanced training for scientists. The Software / Database Developer will join the Outstation’s computer group and will mainly be responsible for:
    -Maintenance of an existing Oracle database and assorted tools
    -Maintenance of web applications and local web services
    -Improving documentation and test setup of the EMBL database systems
    -Supporting the local administration team with data extraction for statistics & other purposes Assisting in the development of the upgrade system.

    Management and organization of the IARC Biobank in order to facilitate the monitoring of all specimens through an effective Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS); Supervision, maintenance and improvement of core laboratory facilities and the supervision of the associated staff. 
    Description of duties:
    The incumbent is the Head of the Laboratory Services and Biobank (LSB) Group and works under the direct supervision of a Scientific Officer. Organizationally, the LSB is located in the Director's Office reflecting the service nature of these activities in supporting the Scientific Sections of the Agency. The Head of LSB is advised and guided by two steering committees, the Laboratory Steering Committee (LSC) and the Biobank Steering Committee (BSC).

    The successful applicant will be working on the REViSITE (Roadmap Enabling Vision and Strategy for ICT-enabled Energy Efficiency) EU project. REViSITE is a FP7 Coordination Action, which seeks to coordinate cooperation and communication within the multidisciplinary ‘ICT for energy-efficiency’ research community in Europe.
    REViSITE will undertake: RTD & Funding Communities Consolidation activities; a state of the art review and critical analysis of recent and current RTD and industry work on ICT in energy efficiency across construction and Smart Grids/Manufacturing/Lighting; preparation of a RTD Roadmap for multi-disciplinary ICT-enabled energy efficiency; and communication, dissemination and awareness-raising activities.
    The REViSITE consortium comprises 7 partners from 7 EU countries, and is led and coordinated by Loughborough University.
    REViSITE is building on the results of another EU project in which the group has participated: I3CON, which seeks to enable the transformation towards a sustainable European construction industry delivering industrially produced, integrated processes and intelligent building systems.

    The University of Newcastle and Energy Australia are collaborating to develop ways of adapting new technology to enhance Energy Australia’s network capabilities, for example by deploying electronic sensing and monitoring devices, and the implementation of communications and information technology. The two organisations recently launched the Energy Australia Centre of Excellence in Intelligent Electricity Networks, based in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. This Centre uniquely combines the research capabilities of the
    University with Energy Australia’s development program to create innovative smart grid technology.
