    Applications are invited for the full-time permanent post of Professor of Electrical & Electronic Engineering.
    This is an opportunity to contribute to the development of a vibrant Department, which has very active research programmes, including a number of major research projects funded by Science Foundation Ireland, and strong links with the internationally renowned Tyndall National Institute. The Department looks forward to developing close links with the International Energy Research Centre, which the Irish Government is about to establish in Cork.

    The Geological Survey of Norway (NGU), based in Trondheim, is the central national institution for knowledge of the bedrock, mineral resources, surface deposits and groundwater of mainland Norway and of the near-surface geology of the Norwegian continental shelf. The Survey's tasks include geological, geophysical and geochemical mapping, development and maintenance of databases, research, information activities and advice to governmental bodies and industry. The NGU staff of 225 includes representatives of 24 nationalities and 65% of the staff are scientists.

    - To perform the lead of R&D studies in surface treatment in close collaboration with industrial partners as well as academic laboratories,
    - To carry out surface treatment and/or thin film deposition using various techniques (magnetron sputtering technique, plasma CVD treatment, …),
    - To participate to the safety and the quality activities of the laboratory,
    - To perform basic surface characterizations (MEB, DRX, FT-IR, ..),
    - To follow extended surface characterizations performed by the SAM scientists,

    The EMBL is building an integrated facility for structural biology at the new PETRA-III leading-edge synchrotron source at DESY, Hamburg. The current phase of the project includes the construction of two beamlines in Macromolecular X-ray Crystallography and one in Small Angle X-ray Scattering of biological material. These facilities will be complemented by an integrated area for biological sample preparation and characterisation and high-throughput crystallisation.

    Candidates should hold a Ph.D. and have at least one first author publication in press or published in a major international journal. Expertise in yeast genetics and/or in quantitative Chromatin Immunoprecipitation (ChIP) would represent an advantage.

    ENERGY AUSTRALIA CHAIR IN INTELLIGENT ELECTRICITY NETWORKS

    The University of Newcastle and Energy Australia are collaborating to develop ways of adapting new technology to enhance Energy Australia’s network capabilities, for example by deploying electronic sensing and monitoring devices, and the implementation of communications and information technology. The two organisations recently launched the Energy Australia Centre of Excellence in Intelligent Electricity Networks, based in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. This Centre uniquely combines the research capabilities of the
    University with Energy Australia’s development program to create innovative smart grid technology.

    Qualifications & experience: This position is for a senior technical officer who will provide high-level support to the Head of Unit in management and organization of her own research group as well as the Unit. The candidate should hold an appropriate degree from a university or technical school training in molecular or cell biology. Extensive experience with Drosophila genetics, competence in molecular biology and biochemistry, immunohistochemistry and light microscropy are essential. As the position carries significant responsibility excellent and broad technical, organizational, interpersonal and management skills as well as exceptional reliability. Fluency in both English and German is required.

    Contract: An initial contract of 3 years will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of review.


    provide support to technical units in conceptualizing publishing projects and programmes using the publishing planning procedures advise on publishing options and best practices; and provide training on publishing guidelines, standards and tools, when required;
