EMBL is looking for a Microsystems/microfluidics engineer to join the newly established group of Dr. Christoph Merten in the Genome Biology Unit at the EMBL Heidelberg, Germany. The overall aim of the Merten lab is the development of enabling technologies for large scale screens in biology and chemistry. In particular, the group focuses on droplet-based microfluidic systems in which tiny water droplets (pico/nanoliter volumes) within an immiscible oil phase serve as independent reaction vessels. These microcompartments can be generated and manipulated (sorted, splitted, fused) at up to kilohertz frequencies. Due to the miniaturization the technology also allows the use of highly valuable samples that generally cannot be obtained on the scale for high throughput screening (e.g. primary human cells).

You will join an expanding team of health economists in the Departments of Social Medicine and Community Based Medicine. This post offers an excellent opportunity for a junior health economist with a particular interest in randomised controlled trials to contribute to empirical and methodological research within two exciting new initiatives.
    1) Bristol Randomised Trials Collaboration (BRTC) is a UKCRC-registered clinical trials unit. You will contribute to BRTC’s portfolio of high quality clinical research, particularly in the design, conduct, analysis and reporting of economic evaluations within large-scale randomised controlled trials of healthcare technologies.
    2) The MRC Collaboration and innovation for Difficult or Complex randomised controlled Trials (ConDuCT) Hub’s remit is to develop innovative research methods for the design and timely delivery of randomised controlled trials. In collaboration with senior hub researchers, you will develop methodological research related to economic evaluation of RCTs.

As you help us to create a better environment, you’ll manage the Health, Safety and Wellbeing National Team and work with our regional Health and Safety Advisors, and oversee the management of the Health and Wellbeing contracts. Your relevant qualifications, combined with your knowledge, composure and leadership skills will ensure you’re well placed to be the Senior Competent Person here.
