The Department of Hydroinformatics and Knowledge Management (HIKM) has a Core that is engaged in the study and application of Knowledge and Capacity Development (KCD). Current research concerns the modes of knowledge sharing in water resources, the capacity in government and the civil service system, and the access to the global knowledge pool through formal and informal learning processes and networks.

The Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) in Amsterdam is a multifaceted centre of expertise for international cooperation, healthcare and culture. Its main focus is on sustainable development and poverty alleviation.
KIT Development Policy & Practice contributes to reducing poverty and inequality in the world and to support sustainable development. We carry out research and provide advisory services and training in order to build and share knowledge on a wide range of development issues. Key to our approach is a focus on both policy and practice for development: we bring experience from the field to the policy debate and we bring theory into practice, translating initiatives between global, national and decentralized levels.

The candidate will contribute to this network by studying processes such as inflammation in liver that leads to liver fibrosis and ultimately to cirrhosis. During this process, lipid droplet dynamics in various liver cells play an important role. The mechanism and relevance of lipid droplet dynamics in hepatic cells will be studied, as well as the interaction between various hepatic cells such as between hepatocytes and hepatic stellate cells. Functional similarities between human and mouse will be the basis for model developments (i.e. knock-out/transgene mice), performed in collaboration with other research groups.

“Tracing novel Selenium metabolisms in the geological record using Selenium stable isotopes”
Stable isotope fractionation is a key tool for tracing past prokaryotic life and for estimating redox conditions in the atmosphere and oceans throughout the geological record. Selenium stable isotope fractionation records the microbial reduction of selenium oxyanions to more reduced forms, and has potential to be an important new biomarker in the terrestrial sedimentary rock record. Although it has a chemistry largely similar to sulfur, selenium provides additional new information since major redox transitions occur at different potentials.

The chair of the Economics of Infrastructures Section focuses on effective and efficient economic governance of infrastructures, including energy, electronic communication, water and transport, in the context of market restructuring and significant technological change. The Professor of Economics of Infrastructures takes a multidisciplinary perspective in which economic frameworks are related not only to adjacent social science disciplines but also to engineering approaches.

The applicant will be based in the Department of Environmental Economics at the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM) and TNO Innovation & Environment, Delft. The Department of Environmental Economics hosts an international research group of about 25 researchers, faculty members and PhD students. The department has a leading role in the economic assessment of environmental change, in particular economic resource modeling, economic valuation of ecosystem services and market based instruments. The group works on a variety of research topics, including adaptation to climate change, renewable energy, behavioral choice experiments, biodiversity conservation, risk and uncertainty, water pricing, mapping and modeling of ecosystem services, environmental management and poverty alleviation.

Applications are invited for a tenure track Assistant Professor position in the research group Molecular Inorganic Chemistry (Harder group) of the Stratingh Institute for Chemistry which is part of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The candidate should build a frontier research program in a modern area of molecular inorganic chemistry in which advanced synthetic organometallic chemistry will play an important role. The tenure track position should strengthen the research program of the Molecular Inorganic Chemistry group and complement the existing synthetic work.

As Scientist Analytical Chemistry, you play a key scientific role in the development and application of advanced chemical methodology (LC and GC with various mass spectrometric techniques) in the domain of food and feed analysis. You will lead and work on the research topics assigned to you and provide guidance to co-workers. Presenting the results through lectures, reports and scientific publications is expected, just as initiating new research proposals and contributing to maintain and extend our network in the field of natural toxins and/or pesticides analysis.

Department: Biomedical Data Sciences and Informatics (BDSI) Europe
BDSI Europe is part of the Biomedical & Regulatory Affairs Division Europe (BMRA EU). BDSI Europe consists of the following functional groups: BMRA IT EU, Data Management EU, Biostatistics EU and Medical Writing EU.
As part of a multidisciplinary team, the Medical Writer researches, creates, edits, and coordinates the production of clinical documents to support and facilitate the achievement of assigned clinical development projects in line with Genzyme's strategy and external medical/scientific standards. The Medical Writer works in close cooperation with colleagues in Europe and the US.
